Experiment 2: The Marker

The two chosen concepts:

Interlocking as a means of joining: The idea is that parts of the building will be joined together in such a way that it seems as though those parts interlock with each other. It joins the building with every separate part created for it to make it a whole. It can also have interior spaces inside the interlocking areas.

Articulating the gesture of circulation, continuous movement: The idea is that when people will enter the building, they will feel a clear pathway leading to areas of the building. The paths are visible very easily and will help with continuous movement. People will not be confused about where to go next. This gives a sense of relief to everyone who explores or uses the building.

New concepts (Electroliquid aggregation)

The concept of electroliquid aggregations means that the two structures are joined together in such a way that they seem like one single structure and cannot be distinguished as separate forms anymore. They work together to form a whole structure.

In my chosen concepts and developed sketches and models, I have done as the following picture:

I have combined both structures to form a new structure. There is a curvilinear form created from one part of the structure that was combined. It also portrays my chosen concept from the three available ones. (Technology, multicultural people, sustainability)

I have chosen multicultural peoples of Blacktown. From my sketches of the model, we can see that there is a clear rectilinear structure and suddenly there's also a curvilinear structured conjoined with the rectilinear one. This indicates that even though the two structures are very different from each other, they are still conjoined into one whole structure. This means that the differences of cultures work together to create something important and beautiful and one would be nothing without the other.

I have given the marker several different facilities which makes it useful in different ways for all the visitors.

Week 1

12 axonometrics based on chosen architects' concepts

1. Form follows function (ALVARO SIZA)

2. Articulating the gesture of circulation, continuous movement. (ALVARO SIZA)

3. Parts and whole - the idea of a 'whole' composed of a number of repeated shapes or geometries (CARLO SCARPA)

4. Celebration of the corner (CARLO SCARPA)

5. Interlocking as a means of joining (CARLO SCARPA)

6. Shadow as material/ornament (ALVARO SIZA)

5 images from Lumion:

Image 1: In this image it can be seen that there are different levels. They are not different floors, but rather continuous spaces. However, each of the spaces or landings provide a different facility for the visitors.

I have chosen to develop stairs and add facilities to my model.

Image 2: In this picture it can be seen that there is a garden on a top space of the marker. There is also a sauna or it can even be turned into a regular sized swimming pool. This area is meant to be relaxing for the visitors. They can explore the garden or take a dip in the pool or just admire the view from the top.

Image 3: In this image it shows how the curvilinear form has combined with the rectilinear form. It also shows clearly how the stairs provide the means for travelling from the bottom to the top of the marker. There is also an elevator that is provided for areas that the stairs may not access and for anyone needing this facility.

Image 4: In this image, the curvilinear form is the focus. It also shows how the marker will be viewed from the highway and the roads. Parts of the elevator, the textured walls and the outdoor gym is also visible. This is also another view from the highway/roads.

Image 5: In this image, we can see that there are spaces in the ground area and the spaces in between the top and bottom of the marker. In these spaces, there is a cafe, a barbecue spot and after the first set of stairs, a person would reach the lounge where they can sit and relax or even work. There is also an outdoor gym on the highest level of the marker that can be accessed for anyone who wants to use the facility.
